Don’t Miss the Blessing (by my Mom)

During WOW week I was asked to house three men (Sylvester, Dismas and Moses) from Tanzania, East Africa.  They serve with the Kneppers at Hope of the Nations.  At first I hesitated, wondering if I would be able to communicate with them.  What kind of food did they eat?  Were my sleeping arrangements adequate?  Coni Knepper assured me that the boys would appreciate anything.  My daughter, Michelle, who also serves under Harold and Coni had worked with all three man and had come to love them and said I would too.  All my fears were washed away when Dismas walked in and gave me a big bear hug and said, “Hello Michelle’s mother, thank you for letting us stay with you in your home” as he swung me around several times. (I never had a greeting like that before)

The most enjoyable moments were around the dinner table.  Their excitement to see what I was Continue reading

Good GOD Work & Good Fun!

I attended a TBA (Training Birth Attendant) Seminar today with our Nurse Adoneth.  Each week Adoneth leaves her family sometimes twice a week to set up and host Two day seminars in remote villages to teach on Safe Baby delivery and how to detect when it is critical to get the mother and baby to a hospital.  Today we traveled by one taxi, to catch another taxi to finally take a motorcycle to our destination, taking 1.5 hrs. Upon finishing this journey I tried to imagine what it would be like for a mother to have to take this journey while in labor with critical complications, and finding the funds to get there…and to boot the transportation can be rather frightening!

But, back to Adoneth: Adoneth has been doing this ministry on her own for over a year now.  Something you should know about this woman, she is a Silent Giant.  That’s what I named her two weeks after having met her; she is humble, yet powerful! In our staff meetings she sits in the back always listening never commanding or needing accolades. And with out any support she each week set’s out to meet with strangers and teaches them what she knows, she shares the gospel and she tries to meet as many of the medical needs she can with in her reach.  And she does this all by foot!  Adoneth is ambitious to say the least, and I know single handedly this woman is saving lives!  At what rate I do not know, but boy do I ever want to be standing next to her when God shows her all she has done for HIS Kingdom!!  So until we both get to Heaven ~ come this May, on a regular basis I have the privilege of supporting Adoneth in her work!  I am most delighted that GOD would find me worthy of such a ministry.

Back on Today, it was a Good God day!  We where able to share from the word on God’s love for Continue reading

Office Meltdown

My ministry here in Kigoma is mainly in the office:  ..and truth be told, my office stories aren’t all that exciting unless you consider fighting with a stapler, a safe and the electricity entertaining! Now, I do love and know God has chosen me to be in a very needed position~ a company or organization can not flourish, if there is no one to do the behind the scenes work…and all service to our King is an honor.  But, what God is doing is far more exciting…which is why I will continue to update you with Ministry news from Hope of the Nations via newsletters and such.

My blog…where you are now, is where I’m going to keep you updated on personal stuff and hopefully give you some insight into what it looks like and feels like to work and live in Kigoma (Please fill free to let me know if you would like to be removed from this distribution list as it will not always be ministry related).

On that  personal note: here’s a copy of a recent entry made to facebook on June 13th titled “GONE AWOL”

The last couple of days in the office have been spent trying to get just ONE thing done.  It started with a simple project of stapling a set of papers together.. an hour later I ended up with 4 non-working staplers, so I moved on to the scanner/fax machines. I say machines because there where 2.5 to work with!  Took me DAYS to get them wired up properly…the software downloaded and installed, while both computers where dying because both internet and power were intermittent.  Project finally completed to find out not one of them was a fully working machine. UGH!

Now, all awhile I am in my new office with my new desk, which happens to be very fancy…and very tall!!  The desk top is nearly up to my chest…but I do have a nice office chair that spins and it has a handy dandy push peddle for raising it up.  YUP, that right a little too good to be true, it’s stuck or rather welded in place. So I sit on 3 very large cushions which I’m sliding off of all day long!  Should I mention…how I get into the office?? NOT ONE DOOR is a properly working door!!  …and it takes 3 to get into the place! An iron gate, then a screen door…then your front door. All requiring one to two keys each!!

Ooh and the safe… I have to shake it, sometimes put my foot on it…to pry it open, which I do often through out the day!!  Then to shut it ~ requires a hard slam followed up with another strong push of the foot!!! Sounds hysterical in retrospect, but yesterday it put me in “AWOL” status!!!

I ended up hitching a ride 1.5hrs out of town to a village to do some Continue reading

HNBC Class of 2011

Graduation was AWESOME!! Tearest moment was when Bahati our Degree graduate…offered thanks to his wife and family for their continued support of him while living away from them 9 months out of the year (3.5 years total)! He stated that since they were unable to travel the journey for this day…his wife is back at home wearing the same colors as he!!! Probably a girl thing, but that chokes me up!!

Bahati – made us all laugh, when he said. “I came to Hope of the Nations thinking I had some bible knowledge, quickly I learned I had none!” (Doesn’t that seem true for all of us?). Bahati has left back for Congo where he will be planning the planting of a Church, but knowing that this will require support and accountability….he will be sending 6 students to Hope of the Nations Bible College to be trained up in the word, and come back to serve with him in Congo!! What wisdom!

Each of our graduates expressed gratitude to our Lord for all they have accomplished and their appreciation that God had placed this vision for HNBC on the hearts of Harold and Coni Knepper. We have all blessed by them and their time here at HNBC and we are so sad to see them go, but beyond excited to see ALL that the Lord will do in and through them!! Keep them in your prayers~~

Alex! Bahati! Boaz! Evelina! Evelyn! Jafeth! Moses! Peace! Sara!

Day in the Life – Kigoma

We have a team in from Pella Iowa…very cool. Yesterday they spent the day immulating an average day as a national man or women: Ladies started by each having to catch thier own chicken, kill it, pluck it, gut it…and finally cook it – along with traditional bean and rice. The men where offered the option to do manual labor or play checkers (many men opt to have thier wives do all the working and the cooking). All men from Iowa choose manual labor so they could buy thier food from the ladies (since non of them are married to the ladies - they would need to pay for it) So given the average day labor rate they all recieved 3,000 shillings which equals 2 dollars and 6 cents. ALL WORKED EXTRA HARD FOR THIER MEALS!!!

2 Thessalonians 3:10 (KJV) For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
